Disney Studios Becomes First Studio with Two $1 Billion Films in a Year as Toy Story 3 Crosses $1 Billion at Today's Box Office

In 2006 Disney Studios’ Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was their first film to generate $1 billion at the global box office. Today (Friday August 27th) two weeks after becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 3 will reach the $1 billion mark. Only seven films have ever generated $1 billion at the global box office and Toy Story 3 is now the only animated film to reach this milestone. The animated feature’s strong box office peformance along with Alice in Wonderland that generated $1 billion at the box office earlier this year makes The Walt Disney Studios the first studio in history to have two films break that threshold in the same year.
