BoxOfficeMojo.com reports John Carter opened to less than $10 million Friday – a very weak opening that would have it less than other recent March releases like 300 and Watchmen and even smaller films like Battle: Los Angeles and 10,000 B.C. It’s also less than other recent Disney releases Tron Legacy and Prince of Persia. They project an oepning weekend of less than $30 million which would be very disappointing for a film that cost a reported $250 million.
Update: The weekend estimates are in and it looks like John Carter will not win the weekend as it will finish second to The Lorax which is in its second week of release. John Carter’s estimated weekend take is $30.6 million.
