The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that the Florida Department of Citrus is having Marvel remake their mascot Captain Citrus. The organization is paying Marvel about $1 million for the redo which will include three digital comic books, a Marvel-produced animated trailer and a contest. The original Captain Citrus is round like an orange, but the new version will be buff like a Marvel hero.
From 1970 to 1987 Disney supported the Florida Citrus Commission with the Orange Bird. The citrus mascot has seen a resurgence in popularity and is gracing a wide variety of Disney merchandise.
