Disneyland Paris is in trouble for offering discounts to residents of France and Belgium, but not all European countries. The park has received many complaints and their ticket policies are being investigated because it goes against Europe’s Single-Market rule that ensures all customers in the European Union receive the same deals and prices. In addition to pricing promotions based on country of residence, Disneyland Paris’ website also goes against EU rules as the deals are not transparent during online ticket purchases.
A Disneyland Paris spokesperson said that prices fluctuate based on holidays in certain countries. Domestically, Disney Parks lower prices for residents living close to the parks to encourage them to visit more often during slower seasons. EU investigators say Disneyland Paris is the only European theme park that sells tickets this way. The BEUC is quoted as saying ““Unjustified price differences violate single market principles and restrict consumer choice. Under EU law consumers have a fundamental right not to be discriminated on the basis of their nationality or place of residence.”
