The Muppets To Get a New Showrunner

Just as reviews for the show have been mixed, so have the ratings for ABC’s The Muppets which premiered this fall. While the show was picked up for an extra three episodes, bringing its season one total to 16, Deadline is now reporting that showrunner and co-creator Bob Kushell is leaving the show and the program will undergo some tweaks. Kristin Newman (an executive producer on ABC’s Galavant) is apparently in talks to take over for exiting Kushell.

According to Deadline, The Muppets will take a typical winter hiatus following a 10 episode run. The final six episodes of the season will kick off in the spring as somewhat of a reboot. Hopefully fans, network execs, and Neilsen homes will be happy with the direction of those six episodes under a new showrunner and earn the series a second season.

The Muppets debuted to strong ratings but has only attracted a decent number of eyeballs in recent weeks. This shakeup is only the latest in a string of behind the scenes drama as detailed by Deadline.
