Wanda Group Chairman Critical of Shanghai Disney Project

One of China’s richest businessmen, Wang Jianlin, who is a chairman of the Wanda Group has speculated that the soon-to-be-open Shanghai Disney Resort will struggle to make a profit. According to Variety, Jianlin has said that Shanghai’s poor weather, the park’s high costs, and competition from Wanda could spell disaster for the project.

In a recent interview, Jianlin said of the Disney, “China already has Wanda – they really ought not to have come to China at all.” Wanda has many entertainment properties and venues across China. The company is currently breaking ground on their 11th theme park set to open near Guilin in 2020.

Shanghai Disneyland, currently in test operations, will hold its grand opening on June 16th.
