Iger Says US Corporate Taxes are Too High and Complex

Only a couple of weeks after getting into a rift with Senator Bernie Sanders over the wages Disney pays to Cast Members, Disney CEO is getting political once again and criticizing the corporate tax system in the United States. In an interview with CNNMoney, Iger said that tax rates are not only too high but are also “ridiculously complex.”

“It doesn’t mean that a company shouldn’t pay taxes, but I think the structure is off … the tax base should be lowered, and the loopholes should be closed,” Iger said. These comments came as Iger was promoting Shanghai Disneyland — the company’s latest park which is opening next week.

When asked about remarks Sanders’ made at his campaign rally in Anaheim a few weeks ago, Iger said, “He chose the wrong company to criticize. I thought that it was indicative of a person who had never been in business and had not taken the time to really understand and appreciate what the meaning of business is to the country.”
