CBS Los Angeles is reporting that a Northern California family is suing Disney saying they were bitten by bedbugs while staying at the Grand California Hotel and Spa in the Disneyland Resort in 2014. The suit filed by Joseph and Danielle Jones alleges battery, negligence, fraudulent concealment, nuisance, as well as intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress on the part of Disney, saying that their youngest daughter has experienced permanent scarring. The family is seeking unspecified damages.
The Jones’ say they first alerted the front desk when their nine-year-old complained of itchy bites on her face. They then say they were referred to housekeeping who suggested the bites may have been from mosquitos. In the suit the family then claims that all of them were covered with bites by the next day. Upon returning home, doctors in Oakland apparently confirmed that the bites were from bedbugs. This led the Jones’ to throw away all of their infected clothing and luggage.
Also alleged in the suit is that other guests had experienced issues with bedbugs at the same hotel prior to the Jones’ stay. They say posts from 2013 on two different websites report people being bitten by bedbugs at the Grand Californian.
