Marvel’s “The Defenders” Netflix Series Adds Sigourney Weaver to Cast

Big news out of New York Comic-Con tonight as Netflix and Marvel announced that Sigourney Weaver will play an unspecified role in the upcoming series The Defenders. “Marvel is honored to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television.

The reveal came after fans were treated to a new trailer for Iron Fist, greeted by the rest of the cast of The Defenders, and more.

Surprise guests peppered the panel including an appearance by Erik LaRay Harvey, who plays Willis Stryker, a.k.a. Diamondback, in the Netflix original series Marvel’s Luke Cage.

Fan-favorite Jon Bernthal, who plays the title role of Frank Castle/The Punisher, introduced Deborah Ann Woll to the fans, announcing that she will be joining him in Marvel’s The Punisher, where she will reprise the role of Karen Page, whom viewers first met in Marvel’s Daredevil.

The end of the panel featured the biggest surprise of the night when the cast of the Netflix original series Marvel’s The Defenders united on stage for the first time. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) joined Finn Jones (Danny Rand).
