Disney Victorious in Chinese “Cars” Copyright Suit

Variety reports that Disney has won a copyright lawsuit against the filmmakers behind The Autobots, which Disney claims is too close to the Pixar film Cars and its sequel. The Shanghai court issued a fine of 1.35 million RMB ($190,000 USD) to China-based production company Bluemtv and distributor G-Point.

A spokesperson for Disney said, “Intellectual property rights protection is key to the growth of the cultural services industry. We are pleased that  the court is protecting the intellectual property rights of creative companies like ours.”
