Disneyland Resort Planning New Parking Structure Next to Mickey & Friends

For several years, parking has been a major problem for the Disneyland Resort. Originally the plan was to solve this with what was called the Eastern Gateway project. However, that plan drew the ire of many businesses on Harbor Boulevard and has been held up. Now, the Orange County Register reports that the project is being put on hold and the Disney Parks Blog has announced plans to build a new structure next to the current Mickey & Friends one.

This new 6,500 space structure will be located atop the what is now the Pinnochio parking lot. Additionally, Disney plans to increase the number of lanes heading into the structure by 60%, which they hope will alleviate backups. In order to reduce delays after you park, the resort says it will be reconfiguring the tram loading area as well. The new structure will begin construction in February 2018 and is slated to open in 2019 — hopefully before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Notably, this announce arrived just moments after plans for a fourth hotel and redesigned Downtown Disney were revealed.
