21st Century Fox Reportedly in Talks to Sell Studio, TV Production to Disney

According to a report by CNBC, 21st Century Fox is in talks to sell part of the company to Disney. Any potential deal would exclude a number of Fox assets such as the Fox broadcast network, Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports, or Fox affiliates. However, it would include the 20th Century Fox studio. This is especially notable to Marvel and Star Wars fans at Fox holds the film rights to X-Men (and others) as well as the original Star Wars film. Of course, Fox also owns Avatar, which Disney licensed the theme park rights to in order to build Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. If a deal were to be worked out, Disney would also take control of Fox’s TV production wing as well as international assets.

Talks have apparently been in the works between the two companies for weeks, although there’s currently no prognosis on a deal. Additionally, they talks are said to be “on again, off again” and not currently taking place. Both Disney and Fox declined CNBC’s request for comment. It’s also worth noting that the two studios recently joined three others for the launch of Movies Anywhere.
