Deadline is reporting that Rob Marshall is Disney’s top choice to direct their live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. If Marshall were to take the job, it would reunite him with Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda who is producing the film with Marc Platt and penning new songs for it with Alan Menken. In addition to directing the new Poppins film, Marshall has also helmed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Into the Woods for the studio. According to Deadline, an offer to direct has been extended and Marshall is expected to come to a decision over the holidays.
