Disney India to Create Broadway-Style “Aladdin” Show

Many of Disney’s wonderful animated films have been transformed into gorgeous live shows and performed on Broadway. With the success of these shows, Disney has taken them to audiences all over the world. This year, Disney Indial is creating a version of Aladdin to be performed at the Mumbai National Centre for the Performing Arts. Set to open in April, the show will reimagine some elements of the story to better align with Indian culture, but will keep the structure and style of the Broadway version.

Disney India has previously staged Beauty and the Beast (2015-2016 season) for it’s Indian audiences.  Disney India country head, Abhishek Maheshwari told Variety, “In India, we are committed to developing world-class entertainment that families can relate to and become a part of their everyday lives.”

Back in the states, Aladdin is currently playing on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre and is embarked on a North American Tour.
