Couple Suing Disney After Rat Allegedly Bites Man in Magic Kingdom

We knew that Walt Disney World was home to some famous mice but a new lawsuit claims it also has at least one rat. According to the Orlando Sentinel, a couple is suing Disney after the man says he was bitten by a rat in Magic Kingdom. The lawsuit claims that Galen Haldeman and Carol Haldeman were exiting Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin when the rodent appeared. After being kicked by a different guest, the rat allegedly climbed onto Carol’s wheelchair, at which point Galen grabbed it and was bitten. The lawsuit states, “Galen grabbed the rat and yanked it off the chair. As he did so, the rat bit into one of Galen’s fingers. Galen had to twist the rat’s neck, and the rat fell to the floor where someone threw an empty plastic container over it.” It goes on to say that a Cast Member then came and took the animal away while telling guests not to take photographs. The Haldeman’s are seeking more than $15,000 for medical expenses, disfigurement, mental anguish, and more, saying Disney failed in its responsibility to “keep its park clean and safe by allowing conditions to get to the point where rats were inhabiting the park and were even bold enough to come out openly, among people.” Disney did not immediately respond to the Sentinel’s request for comment.
