FX Anthology Series Picked Up For Third Season, “Impeachment: American Crime Story” to Debut Fall 2020

More news out of the TCA Summer Press Tour 2019 revealed that FX is bringing back American Crime Story for a third season. Imeachemnt: American Crime Story will focus on the mid 1990’s sex scandal surrounding the Bill Clinton presidency.   

What’s happening:

  • FX has announced the third season of its limited series franchise, American Crime Story, will focus on the sex scandal that surrounded the White House during Bill Clinton’s presidency.
  • The new series was announced during the TCA Summer Press Tour. Season 3 will be titled Impeachment: American Crime Story. 
  • Deadline reported the news of the series’ theming, late yesterday afternoon.

  • Impeachment will see the return of Sarah Paulson who played Marcia Clark in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

  • Paulson will take on the role of Linda Tripp, with Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) starring opposite her as Monica Lewinsky, and Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones.

  • The real Monica Lewinsky will serve as a producer on the series.
  • Impeachment is scheduled to begin production in February with a planned premiere set for Sunday, September 27, 2020.

About the series:

  • This entry in the franchise is based on the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President  by Jeffrey Toobin.
  • Additionally, Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson was the inspiration for the first season of American Crime Story.
