Orange County to Reduce Physical Distancing, Which Can Lead to Increased Capacity at Theme Parks

It was just announced by Orange County, Florida, Mayor Jerry Demings that physical distancing in all instances will be reduced from 6 feet to 3 feet effective immediately based on the announcements made by the CDC yesterday, Tuesday, April 27. This can lead to increased capacity at the theme parks including Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort.

What’s Happening:

  • Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings announced that effective immediately, the county will reduce physical distancing from 6ft to 3ft in all settings, this would include theme parks at their discretion.
  • The face-covering executive order has three phases based on when a percentage of the population receives the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the county.
  • Orange County is in phase one starting today, which reduces the physical distance. Masks will continue to be mandatory. They are expecting to reach Phase 2 in an estimated 3 weeks based on vaccinations.
  • Mayor Demings states that they have had communication with the theme parks about the phases and that they will be making adjustments as they continue to keep Guests safe while being able to now increase capacity.
