Own A Piece of Disney History with Unique New Plane Tags Being Auctioned by Palm Springs Air Museum
Created from the original aircraft skin used in the restoration of Walt Disney's personal plane.
A unique new item can be picked up from the Palm Springs Air Museum celebrating the restoration of Walt Disney's personal aircraft.
What's Happening:
- The Palm Springs Air Museum is doing something special regarding the restoration of Walt Disney's personal Gulfstream G-1, N234MM.
- Working with the Walt Disney Archives along with MotoArt Studios, the Palm Springs Air Musuem will be auctioning off a limited number of collectible Plane Tags made from the original aircraft skin used in the restoration of N234MM.
- A Plane Tag is a small, collectible tag made from the upcycled metal skin of retired, historic, or decommissioned aircraft. You can see an example of one of these items below.
- Right now, five low-numbered tags - #6 through #10 - are being offered at auction, with bidding open now through August 31, 2026. At the official auction site, fans will also learn that there will be a total of 1,700 of these Plane Tags, along with being able to make a bid for those low number tags.
- The remainder of the tags will be available for direct purchase through the Palm Springs Air Museum starting on September 1, 2026.
- The Plane Tags are a fantastic way for Disney fans and aviation enthusiasts to commemorate Walt Disney's personal Gulfstream G-1.
The Plane:
- While the name "Mickey Mouse One" has been carried over to other corporate aircraft in use by the Disney company, it is most commonly associated with Walt Disney himself, and the Grumman Gulfstream 1 that those attending this event will be able to see.
- It is also widely known as being the plane that Walt flew aboard on scouting missions from California to Florida and the site that would eventually become the home of Walt Disney World.
- In fact, for many years many Disney fans could see the plane outside of private D23 events before it's restoration, where it was sitting in the boneyard of the Disney-MGM Studios (later Disney's Hollywood Studios) and guests would pass by it aboard the Backlot Studio Tour, typically before or after entering the popular Catastrophe Canyon segment of the tour.
- The plane has called the Palm Springs Air Museum home for a number of years now, with special D23 events being held at the location in recent years.
