Woman Dies After Riding Space Mountain

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that a 55-year-old woman died after experiencing Space Mountain at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

Pamela Lynn Haynes of Kingsport, Tennessee lost consciousness after getting off the attraction in July and was then transported to Celebration Health’s intensive care unit.

According to the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office, Haynes died of cardiopulmonary arrest and septic shock. The incident is tied to her medical history which included hypertension, congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Disney warns that for safety, guests experiencing Space Mountain should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by the attraction.

Florida theme parks are required to report serious injuries and deaths on a quarterly basis. No other incidents were reported.
