What’s happening:

  • The Orlando Sentinel has reported that the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners has approved proposed refurbishment plans for Disney Cruise Line’s Terminal.
  • This approval will allow Disney Cruise Line to continue pursuing contracts for firms to work on Terminal 8, and the adjacent Terminal 10 that Disney sometimes uses.
  • Terminal will also be able to support more ships when the line’s new Trident class debuts in 2021.
  • The Sentinel writes that proposed work concepts have been approved by Disney Cruise Line. Additionally, according to port officials, the concepts cover both land and marine work on the two terminals.
  • Over the past months the proposals have been in review and port staff have offered recommended firms for the work.
  • The renderings show plans for a Terminal 8 redesign at Port Canaveral, home to Disney Cruise Line.
  • The redesign also includes plans for Terminal 10, which could be used by Disney Cruise Line.
  • Disney can proceed with pursuing a contract for $39.6 million for Terminal 8 work.
  • Included in the renovation is:
  • Port Canaveral is currently the home port for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, and occasionally hosts the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.
  • Three new ships have been announced for the Cruise Line although they have not yet been named.
  • The ships are expected to make their first voyages in 202, 2022, and 2023.

What they’re saying:

Port CEO Capt. John Murray: "They're working on fleet deployment now. Nothing has been decided but we're anticipating additional business here."
