After serving as a mentor to contestants in the last season, country music star Jelly Roll will gain a prominent role as “artist in residence” on American Idol.
What’s Happening:
- According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jelly Roll has been named American Idol’s first “artist in residence.”
- Beginning with Hollywood Week, the country music artist will join the show for the first cuts as audition round winners take place. He’ll work closely with the Idol hopefuls, giving them first-hand advice on how to navigate the journey.
- This move comes after the artist served as a mentor to contestants in the 2024 season.
- Also joining the show this season as a judge is former Idol winner Carrie Underwood, alongside returning judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
- American Idol will return with a half-hour preview special following the Oscars on March 9th, before officially kicking off its eighth season on ABC the following week on March 9th.
