Fear not Idol fans, ABC has renewed reality singing competition, American Idol for a third season.

What’s happening:
- Deadline is reporting that ABC has picked up a third season (18th overall) of the hit singing competition, American Idol.
- ABC has not announced whether the show’s judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan will be returning. Deadline says, the network and judges are in ongoing negotiations.
- The show’s second season finale will air this coming Sunday (May 19) as the Top 3 contestants vie for the “American Idol” title.
- American Idol debuted on Fox in 2001 and aired on the network for 15 seasons. Host Ryan Seacrest has been with the show for its entire run on Fox and currently on ABC.
