Recap: D23 Expo Disney Parks Presentation — Epcot, Disney Wish, “Magic Happens” and More

Disney has slowly been revealing information about the multi year, ongoing transformation of Epcot as well as teasing even more news to come out at D23 Expo 2019. Well folks, the wait is over as Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, announced what’s in store for the future of our beloved Disney parks, resorts, and Cruise Line.

Disneyland

  • A brand new parade, “Magic Happens” is slated to debut at Disneyland in the spring of 2020.
  • The daytime spectacular will be led by Mickey Mouse and friends and will feature stunning floats with favorite characters from Coco, Moana, Sleeping Beauty and more!

  • The Avengers Campus at DCA will have several similarities with the Paris Campus (see below) as well as a new E-Ticket attraction that Imagineers are currently developing.

  • The new attraction will bring guests aboard a Quinjet where they’ll fly alongside the Avengers to Wakanda and beyond!

Shanghai Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland

  • During today’s announcements, it was revealed that the updated castle coming to Hong Kong Disneyland would be called Castle of Magical Dreams.
  • As previously announced, the castle will draw inspiration from 13 beloved Disney stories featuring princesses and heroines

  • The upcoming Frozen-themed area of Hong Kong Disneyland will include Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the one-of-a-kind coaster “will take guests on a winding journey through Arendelle.”

Disneyland Paris

  • During today’s presentation, fans got a first look at the transformation of Hotel New York as it becomes Hotel New York The Art of Marvel.

  • On top of that, a new Spider-Man attraction will put guests in the middle of the action, giving them a chance to test out their own super powers.

  • Finally, it’ll be okay to play with your food at Pym Test Kitchen where scientists are using Pym Particles to grow and shrink food!

Disney Springs

Disney and Target

  • Target and Disney are coming together for a project that includes the launch of 25 Disney stores within select Target stores nationwide.
  • These Disney stores will open on October 4, with 40 additional locations slated to open by October 2020.
  • The “shop-in-shop” will feature an enhanced Disney assortment including products that were previously only available at Disney retail locations.

Disney Wish and Lighthouse Point

  • Disney Cruise Line completed its purchase of privately owned Lighthouse Point earlier this year and signed an agreement with the Government of The Bahamas that guides the responsible and sustainable way the site will be developed.
  • Once everything is approved, construction could begin in 2020 with completion in late 2022 or 2023.

Hollywood Studios

  • New concept art and details were revealed for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The attraction is slated to open in spring 2020!

Epcot

  • First, it was announced that the park would now feature four neighborhoods:
    • World Showcase
    • World Nature
    • World Celebration
    • World Discovery

  • The Guardians of the Galaxy attraction has an official name: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

  • The PLAY! Pavilion will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in October 2021.
  • Among the experiences that will be featured in the pavilion are Edna Mode on a style quest and a (presumably virtual) water balloon fight with Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby.

  • Following the run of Epcot Forever (which debuts on October 1st), the new nighttime spectacular celebrating Disney music around the world will be called HarmonioUS.

Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge, will be a unique hotel and proposed Disney Vacation Club resort inspired by the wonders of nature and artistry of Walt Disney.
